What is the purpose of the contamination report?

The purpose of the contamination report is to identify contaminants present in a proposed construction site. The main motive is to see if these contaminants pose a threat to human health or the environment.

What are the two phases of the contamination report?

The contamination report has two phases, as per the outcome of the Phase 1 Report; there might not be any requirement of Phase 2.

Phase 1 Report

The phase 1 Report is mainly based on Desktop Study and may also incorporate a Site Walkover Survey. What is the objective? The objective is to offer a preliminary Risk Assessment, including a Conceptual Site Model, which might confirm that there is no contamination or may likely be present and what risks it may pose.

Phase 2 Report

Depending upon the phase 1 Report, when further investigation is required, then a Phase 2 assessment is demanded. This report involves taking a sample of soil for laboratory analysis and also hand digging samples, drilling boreholes, and excavating trial pits. After the assessment, a report is produced which describes the methodology and results. It will make confirmation about the presence of risk on the site and if remediation is required.

Further Reporting

As per the requirement Phase, 3 and Phase 4 Reports are produced. They describe remediation strategy and the verification that remediation is completed.
